Cardiac amyloidosis is an under-diagnosed cause of congestive heart failure that now has specific approved therapies. This presentation will review aspects of epidemiology and clinical presentation while reviewing the diagnostic approach tailored to the considerations of the practicing general internist.
This course will discuss the significance of finding amyloid deposits in the muscle biopsies of patients with various myopathies or neuropathies. We will elaborate on whether there is such a diagnosis as “amyloid myopathy” and discuss the role of inflammatory mediators and various cytokines in promoting amyloid in muscle tissue and any therapeutic implications.
